COLOUR INTENSITY

Diamond Colour intensity is directly correlated to the impurities of the diamond at molecular levels. In a perfect scenario a colourless diamond have all the atoms of carbon, as they get more colourful some atoms of carbon have been replaced by others or they are missing in the molecules that form the physical diamond.

Colour is the most important characteristic that dictates the price and value of a diamond when they are getting grade. For that reason, colourless and red diamonds are the most rare and valuable from the market.

There are two main categories to classify colour in diamonds:

1- Colourless diamonds are classify from D to Z depending on their level of whiteness, being D the most pure and colourless diamond while in the opposite side Z has a light yellow appearance due a higher level of impurities.

2- Coloured diamonds are classify from faint to fancy deep. The most high value coloured diamonds are red, pink, blue and green. Most common coloured diamonds are yellow and brown.
